Zig Zag Style Chair 1930s

Zig-Zag is the iconic chair designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld in 1934. A unique seat with an unmistakable shape, entirely made of cherry or ash wood. Zig-Zag is the result of Rietveld's great experience as a cabinetmaker and his continuous search for new forms, constructive solutions and ease of reproduction.

The chair, in fact, is made of 4 wooden panels, shaped and simply stuck together, without metal supports or special reinforcements. The iconic inverted Z-shape of the base guarantees maximum stability and perfect weight distribution, while the slightly inclined back ensures maximum usability.

Overcoming the alternation of horizontal / vertical lines, with the insertion of oblique lines, and the use of a structure that traces a single seamless line are two of the most innovative features of the Zig-Zag chair, reasons for which still today manages to fascinate and enchant, remaining one of the most important pieces of the modern collection.
